John 20:28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
So there we have an apostle calling Jesus God.—— And then Jesus rebuked him and said “say no such thing!” Oh, wait, that’s not what happened next. The next verse says “Jesus saith unto him,’ Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed’”. Huh. Doesn’t seem like you’ve got a very good start here.
When you say "God" do you mean God or god? In any case you are saying theos. A term may be translated god but refer to judges, or any entity with perceived divine power. Only through a Trinitarian filter does one automatically think that Thomas is calling Yeshua, Yahweh. Study the scriptures not traditions. See the commentary on John 20 provided here. https://www.revisedenglishversion.com/comm/John/chapter20/28
To which Trinitarian doctrine are you referring? There are quite a few. Not even Trinitarian theologians agree in unity on the subject. The bio of the blog Administrator (me) appears on the front page of the blog along with two photos, which says he is a Former Orthodox Reader and now a Biblical Unitarian. One God and no other. Yeshua is the Son of God not God the Son, the prophesied human messiah, the "man" Christ Jesus, who is subservient to his Father and calls Yahweh, his God. Even in his glorified body where he sits at the right hand of his Father he is referred to as "the man" not "the God". The holy spirit is the spirit of God, not a separate person. The idea of Yahweh being a three-part entity is pagan in nature and was not solidified in catholic theology until around 600 years after the birth of the church. Unfortunately, many have been raised with the trinitarian tradition being a staple of their belief system, and yet few can explain it or are willing to research it for themselves. You are welcome to discuss these matters on this blog, but personal attacks/ad hominems/name-calling will not be posted.
