So is Elizabeth claiming she called the cops in September and not December now? Or did the heirarchy do the right thing and notify the police when she contacted them? Please enlighten as this is confusing.

    6. Indeed, Elizabeth has not said anything for years. She has refused to comment on the Carole Stephens matter. Nothing to commend here.

    2. No, Anon 4:51. Not in this case. We should consider and reconsider the proofs that have been offered for 20 years. That you would advocate for this predator at this time is unconscionable and is not the love and fairness you think it is. You need to consider that the maligned mother of the girl FMW raped 20 years ago has looked for this day...as has JTO.

The court will settle the matter soon enough. I am prepared to accept the outcome whether guilty or innocent. Are you?

    4. I am absolutely not. You seem to be early to this story, or are a blind supporter of the "Live and let live" "Judge not" liberal crowd. Read "Rape and Holy Man" for documented proof of his sexual crimes against minors. Advocacy of this sexual predator and attempting to take some kind of high moral high ground just makes you look uninformed. Children and families have been destroyed because of this man and those who protected him. Take your self-righteous pablum somewhere else.

    6. Thank you, Counsellor! Except when it's provided before the trial. Hey, you are not the only red-blooded American here who believes in a fair trial. You are just advocating for fairness for the perpetrator when others here are advocating for the victims and are so relieved FMW's reign of sexual abuse is over. Who does that? Read the room.

    7. Anonymous5:53 PM

You have undermined the victims, particularly Elizabeth. Your numerous articles on her behavior during the case of the 15 year old probably will not be beneficial when she testifies against Matthew.

      Delete
    8. ANON 5:53 Elizabeth is a victim of her own decision to hide her husband's sexual crimes, and now, commenters such as you enable her to play the victim while attacking those who have spent years actually advocating for justice for the children she allowed to be abused. This criticism includes the ROCOR hierarchy and other priests who KNEW and did not stop FMW. JTO will not allow you to obfuscate what is really happening here. Elizabeth is and was and has been complicit and now she and her children are paying the price--"Carole Stephens and her daughter"--say it out loud and maybe it will sink in. We can pray for all of them for we know that no one is sinless, however, JTO and many others choose to defend the defenseless. Seems Elizabeth has you to do that for her.

It seems like you must be close to the family and if Matthew admitted the rape of his goddaughter to you and how Hilarion wanted to cover it up, this information would be beneficial to help bring closure not only to the current situation but to Carole Stephen’s family. I pray this information will find the right people to bring justice to all the victims.

    28. In 2019 the future son-in-law of FMW and Elizabeth Williams sent JTO an email stating that he had great concerns that his future children would never get to see their grandfather. He also stated that he had privately informed Bishop Nicholas of his concern. Matthew's survivors were hurt deeply by their Bishop's refusal to act at that time and also by Elizabeth's failure to act by protecting her children from their father. She knew of the rape of her goddaughter and was complicit in that coverup. JTO and others have exposed the actions or inaction of all the bad-faith actors who personally caused hurt to the victims. So, you don't get to come on here anonymously with your Red Herring accusations. Bishops, priests, and family members knew of FMW crimes and did nothing, but you blame the JTO blog? Mirrors are still inexpensive at Walmart. Buy one, no, buy several and pass them out to the real bad faith actors.

      Delete
    30. The "highly specific" accusations were made by Carole Stephens and very well documented with the victim's emails to her mother. Subsequent and recent communication via the victim also confirms that FMW sexually abused his goddaughter. Are you suggesting this didn't happen? On what do you base that? Tread carefully.

"The Meds made me to it" the Devil is doing this. Anything to make himself a victim. His actions should be excused because he said he was sorry. The wake of his destruction will have a ripple effect on many for years to come.

This type of commenter would do well to read my post explaining my personal experience with the Williams family. I served with Father Gregory Williams, FMW's father in Liberty, TN until he showed himself to be abusive, controlling and less than morally sound. This was the environment in which FMW was raised. I knew Carole Stephens and her children at that time.

So do the people claiming 8:23 is blaming children victims not have reading comprehension skills? 8:23 isn’t blaming any child victim…. The commentor comes across as understandably angry at the failed adult accountability.

The comment specifically calls out the abuser’s higher-ups and his wife. ADULTS in positions of responsibility. Nowhere does it imply that a child should have spoken up or prevented abuse.

Children often don’t disclose abuse, for reasons rooted in fear, confusion, or trauma. That’s well-documented and no one here is disputing it. The question raised is: who among the adults knew something, and who failed to act? That is a valid and necessary discussion and is not victim-blaming.

Let’s keep that distinction clear while we seek the truth. Please stop twisting your emotions into everything. Abuse is horrific enough without clouding the conversation with emotionally charged misreadings. You’re seeing what you want to see not what’s in front of your eyes.

And I’ll say it again with my whole chest. She knew of their abuse, she did nothing. If you fail to see that then I hope you are not in charge of children yourself.

      Per Virginia Law

Under § 18.2-370.1, an individual 18 years or older who maintains a custodial or supervisory relationship over a child under 18—and is not legally married to or the legal guardian of the child—commits a Class 6 felony if they, with lascivious intent, knowingly and intentionally: REMOVED FOR PRIVACY

If he was the legal guardian of his children then does this mean he committed alleged acts against someone else who is not his child 🤔

No one is rejoicing over his arrest. This entire situation is heartbreaking. Finding out a man you loved and trusted is a Narcissistic Predator is totally mind blowing. Yes he must face the consequences of his actions, and we are called to pray for his soul. Feeling joy in his suffering is just not Christian.

Why? Rejoicing... This is a much needed step in the process to hold him, and the many others accountable for failing. This is now a time for prayer and healing. There is nothing to rejoice about. As a victim of child sexual assault myself, I promise you his daughters are not Rejoicing in his arrest. This process is painful, and they all have access to what you are posting. We all know that this day was coming, and it had to happen... But finding joy in any of this is just wrong.

Saying that it was a much needed step strongly implies that you're glad it happened. Maybe rejoicing is not the exactly right word, but splitting the difference between rejoicing and glad is not a very valuable exercise. It's not as if we're dancing with glee.

There is nothing to celebrate here. Did he plead guilty yet within a legal court setting? Will he serve his legal sentence without complaint? Has ROCOR laicized him? He is still a priest of ROCOR. Turning himself in because public outcry got too loud for ROCOR to ignore is hardly taking the abuse that he and the system allowed to happen seriously.

Stop trying to defend a child sex predator. I know firsthand that he has caused a lot of grief. The fact that he surrendered himself might bring some mercy and healing. But because of the grandeur of his former position he should never be trusted again to be around children. His father, now deceased priest , even with a jeweled cross, was suspected of sexual misconduct. Stop attacking the work of an advocate for righteous investigation, who has used his gifts to bring about justice and bring about accountability in the church.

I hope anyone who hid him and his crimes should also be held accountable. I just feel like celebrating anything that is happening is not what We should be doing. But flip it how you want. I get it.
